Downtown San Luis Obispo business owners, managers, and employees are invited to attend a free informational seminar covering theft prevention, anti-fraud tactics, and employee safety at the SLO HotHouse on Wednesday, July 18 from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. The event is hosted by Downtown SLO, the SLO Police Department, and the creators of the personal safety app ULZI, and is part of Downtown SLO’s continuing Education Series to benefit the Downtown membership.
The recent burglaries of the Apple Store demonstrate that not even high-end retail chains are safe from theft. Vigilance, information, and preparedness are necessary to keep our community safe.
A one-hour discussion by Christine Wallace, Neighborhood Outreach Manager with the San Luis Obispo Police Department, and San Luis Obispo Police Officer Brent Inglehart will cover:
- Crime prevention through environmental design
- Rights of storeowners
- Employee safety
- Concepts to mitigate fraud
- Shoplifting
- Q&A
Following this, a 30-minute talk by a representative from ULZI will explain how the app may be utilized as a safety tool for employees and guests.
The seminar will close with a round table discussion for business owners to relay their own tried-and-true tactics to prevent crime and theft.
Christine Wallace says, “This free seminar is a valuable learning opportunity for local business owners to strategize safety using environmental design and crime prevention techniques that best fit their business.”
Attendees are required to register via Eventbrite. A link is located on the Downtown SLO homepage. Attendees can also share the event via Downtown SLO’s Facebook page, @ExperienceDowntownSLO.
