Downtown SLO continues its series of community discussions on the future of Downtown, Downtown Foreword, with their April 26 event “Living the Dream.” The event will focus on why merchants, entrepreneurs, developers, and residents are choosing Downtown to build their communities and businesses over other areas of the City, and why having a presence in Downtown San Luis Obispo continues to be valuable and profitable. The event will feature panelists and local business owners Jules DuRocher (owner of Jules D.), Pat Arnold (CEO of CoVelop, Inc.), and Matt Maxwell (owner of BoltAbout). The event will take place on April 26, 2017 at the City/County Library, 995 Palm Street, from 6-8 P.M. Doors will open at 5:30 P.M. The public is invited and encouraged to attend this free community event.

Our panelists represent a broad range of Downtown business, including the retail, development, and tech sectors. Jules DuRocher is the founder and inspiration behind Jules D., a premier men’s lifestyle shop that has been located Downtown for 5 years. Says Jules: “Downtown is the heart and soul of SLO. Of course, there are challenges to owning a business here. Instead of complaining about the issues, we all need to take a vested interest in the future of our Downtown. This workshop intends to discuss those challenges and solutions, and have an honest conversation about working together for our community.”
Panelist Pat Arnold is the CEO of Covelop, Inc., a full-service real estate development company founded in 2003 on a “collaborative development” philosophy that builds sustainable projects prioritizing the community’s needs and input. Projects include the Creamery Marketplace and the Ross Building in Downtown San Luis Obispo.

Downtown resident and BoltAbout owner Matt Maxwell is a student at Cal Poly and two-time entrepreneur. BoltAbout is a transportation-centered tech startup housed at SLO HotHouse, a Cal Poly business incubator located at 872 Higuera Street. The motorized bicycle rental company supports demand for a live-work community that is minimally impactful to the environment and that offers close, clean transit at a reasonable cost.
