Downtown SLO is pleased to announce the winners of the annual Holiday Window Decorating Contest. Three winners were selected by the judging committee:

  • 1st Place: Jules D. for its whimsical, playful sleigh headed around the globe
  • 2nd Place: Change of a Dress Resale Boutique for their elegant and hand-crafted Ojos de Dios (Eyes of God)
  • 3rd Place: Bluebird Salon for their ornate and detailed winter bird nests
  • Best In Theme (“Holidays Around the World”): Junk Girls for their wintry, 3D snow globe display with atlas wrapped packages.
  • Honorable Mention: Hemp Shak for their interactive, winter wonderland display in The Network corridor.

The public was invited to participate by casting their vote for People’s Choice. Nearly 300 votes were cast in the online People’s Choice survey, demonstrating great public support for the contest.

  • People’s Choice: The Sock Drawer for their playful paper display with sock-clad birds and their houses.

People’s choice voting was open online December 5 – December 9. Prizes were awarded by representatives from the Downtown SLO Cultural Arts Committee, including Chris Miller, Managing Director, PAC; Denise Leader-Stoeber, Cal Poly Arts; Ruta Salikis, Executive Director, SLO Museum of Art; Christine Marie, Artist; Landy Fike, Downtown Enthusiast; John Forsberg, PG&E; Stephen Patrick, Stephen Patrick Designs; Bettina Swigger, CEO, Downtown SLO; Rachel Maiorino, COO, Downtown SLO; Brent Vanderhoof, Office Administrator, Downtown SLO; and Kat Thompson, Downtown SLO. Windows were judged on creativity, lighting, and adherence to the theme, Holidays Around the World. Winners received a certificate and a gift bag.

Each year, businesses are encouraged to participate in the contest to create a festive and welcoming holiday atmosphere in Downtown San Luis Obispo and create visual interest in their business. This year, over 30 Downtown businesses participated in the contest, including: Apropos, Avanti, Blackwater, Bluebird Salon, Central Coast Surfboards, Change of a Dress Resale Boutique, EcoBambino, Hands Gallery, Hemp Shak, HepKat Clothing, Hotel San Luis Obispo, HumanKind Fair Trade, Jules D., Junk Girls, Len Collective, Maison Marianne, San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce, Serengeti West Jewelers, Sheila Kearns Chocolate & Confections, SLO Sweets, Summerland Co., Tails Pet Boutique, The Penny, The Ritual, The Sock Drawer, The Sports Forum, and Unique Selections.
