Celebrate National Fire Prevention Week at The Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market on Thursday, October 10 from 6:00-9:00 PM on Higuera Street between Nipomo and Osos. The theme this year is “Not Every Hero Wears A Cape. Plan and Practice Your Escape.”
The event will feature firefighters from all over San Luis Obispo County showing off their latest fire safety equipment. Participating agencies will have interactive displays and booths. This event is free, family-friendly, and open to the public.
“The City of SLO Fire Department takes pride in educating our residents on how they can participate in fire prevention and we’re excited to bring a fun set up to Farmers’ Market this year. We’ll have a Fire Prevention booth with treats and prizes, and we’ll be displaying one of our engines along with an off-road rescue vehicle. We look forward to having our SLO family and friends stop by,” says Joey Nau, Fire Prevention Admin for the City of SLO.
Special entertainment also includes Painted Red, a musical group featuring retired firefighters. Visitors to Farmers’ Market will also be able to enjoy a fresh produce market, food vendors, community information, and other live entertainment on Higuera Street from 6-9 pm in Downtown San Luis Obispo.
Fire Prevention Week takes place across the nation from October 7-11, 2019. Established in 1925, it is the longest running public health observance in the country. Fire Prevention Week aims to teach children and adults how to stay safe in case of a fire. Learn more at nfpa.org.
