The Economic Vitality Corporation of San Luis Obispo County is pleased to announce that it has received a 25,000 dollar grant from Pacific Gas and Electric Company to support the EVC’s efforts to help create a stronger regional economy. Now in its 23 year as the only nonprofit countywide economic development organization, the grant helps support the EVC’s countywide economic strategy project and other resources to analyze the local economy, and help business start and expand businesses to create jobs. By bridging government and business, the EVC helps create solutions in a region with a high cost of living and a lack of head-of-household jobs.
“The EVC and its members are grateful for PG&E’s continued, generous support since the inception of this organization in 1994 as a founding member,” Michael Manchak, EVC president and CEO, said. “PG&E’s recent donation will help redouble our efforts to diversify the economy and create more jobs throughout the County.”
“PG&E has a long and proud partnership with the EVC and its laser-focused mission to enhance the economic vitality and well-being of our community, said Ed Halpin, PG&E’s senior vice president of generation and chief nuclear officer. “We are committed to helping the EVC and our local communities in the near decade long process of transitioning to a future without the Diablo Canyon Power Plant in operation. The EVC’s leadership and expertise is critical to ensure we take advantage of this long planning horizon. The EVC’s efforts will build upon the collaboration between San Luis Obispo County, PG&E, several local cities and the San Luis Coastal Unified School District on a proposed 85 million dollar community support and economic development package that is now before the state for consideration.”
