Hawaii’s Jake Shimabukuro is known for his energetic strumming on the ukulele, incorporating elements of thoughtful, sophisticated arrangements and spontaneous, improvised passages. He mixes both Island and outside influences with the modern and historical, combining the qualities of a long line of virtuoso ukulele players with modern rock musicians to create a sound that’s uniquely his own yet still firmly grounded in the Island tradition. His latest album, The Greatest Day, was released in July 2018 to critical acclaim. (Haze effects)
