World Premiere

A New Play by David Armstrong
Directed by Joan Marie Hurwit

From the perspective of box office call operators, this new documentary-style play follows the very real backlash NYC’s The Public Theater received during the summer of 2017. Amidst a charged political climate, they chose to portray the title character of Julius Caesar as the 45th president which brought on a firestorm of negative callers from around the U.S. This artistic choice sparked a conversation about the role & responsibility of art in politics and how it can be used to navigate deeply rooted divisiveness while maintaining our humanity.

Join us as we try to answer the age old and yet still very relevant question: How do we – the public – not let the few dictate the many? Most of the calls and voicemails you’ll hear in this production are verbatim; real people, real concerns. Warnings include: graphic, gratuitous language; descriptions of mutilation; swearing – PG 13 rating.
