The California Arts Council announced it plans to award $6,270 to Festival Mozaic as part of its Local Impact program.

The Local Impact program fosters equity, access, and opportunity by providing project and partnership support for small arts organizations reaching underserved communities. All projects must extend the reach of the arts to underserved populations that have limited access to the arts.

In 2015, Festival Mozaic celebrates its 45th anniversary, and Music Director Scott Yoo celebrates 10 years of service in his role. To celebrate this auspicious occasion, the Festival has embarked on a first-time intra-state collaboration between the Festival Mozaic Orchestra and the Bach Collegium San Diego. The45th summer season culminates in two joyous performances of J.S. Bach’s masterpiece Mass in B minor on July 24 and July 25. When first published, the Bach B Minor Mass was introduced as the ‘Greatest Musical Work of Art of All Times and Nations.’ Almost 200 years later, it is still renowned as perhaps the greatest choral work of all time.

“California Arts Council grants support a wide range of projects that are crafted by each community to reflect their values and needs,” Chair of the California Arts Council, Donn K. Harris, said. “It is always exciting to see what creative minds attempt to do when working collaboratively. With an increased state investment, we are able to further spark the powerful growth and prosperity that result from the deep arts engagement provided by our grant programs.”

This collaboration reflects a unique blend of California history and arts, as this timeless, sacred music will be presented in two sacred spaces: Old Mission San Luis Obispo and Mission San Miguel. Both historical settings were built in the late 18th century – just 50 years after the Mass was compiled – and the acoustics and spirit of both venues will serve as a picturesque setting for the passionate, lush music.

“We are delighted to have support from the California Arts Council,” said Festival Mozaic Executive Director Bettina Swigger. “We believe the genius of great composers like Mozart and Bach still teaches us much about the world we live in and that by bringing great works of art to life through live performance, we enrich and strengthen the human experience.”

Each summer, thousands of attendees enjoy Festival Mozaic concerts in spectacular San Luis Obispo County venues such as the historic Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, Chapel Hill in Paso Robles wine country, and in scenic wineries, parks and gardens. Festival visitors also enjoy the Central Coast’s renowned wineries, restaurants, hiking, biking, boating and seaside activities.
