While we like to think our Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market is simply the best, there are farmers’ markets across the country that are outstanding also! To recognize these events in communities across the nation, the United States Department of Agriculture designated the first week of August as National Farmers’ Market Week. So to showcase the fruits of our labor, we’re kicking it up a notch with an all-out “Food Fight.”

We’re calling all professional taste testers, self-proclaimed foodies and the rest of us that just flat out love to eat. This Thursday night the Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market is putting on a special event called “Food Fight” and is in need of your refined taste buds.

For the first time ever some of your favorite Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market vendors will be putting their culinary skills to test as they compete amongst one another to be best vendor on Higuera Street.

This is where your foodie genius comes into play. Visit our Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market Facebook page or stop by the information booth on the corner of Higuera and Chorro streets at 6 p.m. on August 6 to receive a Market Map listing the 30+ vendors that are participating in the night’s event.

Visit one, two, three or all of the vendors to try their unique dishes. You will have the opportunity to voice your expert opinions on the same Food Fight market map you received at the beginning of the night.

Check off your favorite vendors and return the map to the information booth to be entered to win a gift basket worth more than $350. The winning Food Fight vendor will be announced at 8:15 p.m. at the Fresh Picked Concert in the Union Bank parking lot as well as in the Downtown Association’s weekly newsletters and social media. This event will be fun for all ages so be sure to bring the whole family; there will be plenty of food! Discover Local Flavor.
