e-InsiderAfter nearly 10 years in the making, the Garden Street Terraces project is set to go before the city council in early March for project approval with an anticipated groundbreaking during the summer of 2015. Like many other projects in SLO, the current design and project plan has significantly shifted from the original concept. In the mid-2000s, the project was proposed as a five-story mixed use center, with 53 residential units, 70 hotel rooms and 74 parking spaces. Today’s project consists of 8 residences, 64 hotel rooms and 41 ground level parking spots. Having passed muster with the Architectural Review Commission at the end of last year, construction renderings are underway for the site which occupies the block bounded by Broad Street, Garden Alley, Garden Street, and Marsh Street. The existing one-story structures at the corner of Broad and Marsh streets will remain. Recent culinary additions to Garden Street include Fromagerie Sophie, La Laconda restaurant and Enzo’s East Coast Eatery which, along with other existing retail stores, plan to stay and remain operational once construction begins.
