Local nonprofit groups and public agencies are invited to apply for grants to fund projects that will enhance the cultural, environmental, recreational, or historical resources in San Luis Obispo County’s unincorporated areas.
As part of the County’s Infrastructure and Beautification Grant program, the County will award a total of $100,000 to qualified applicants. All applicants must be from nonprofit organizations or public agencies. Applications will be accepted from May 16 to June 17, 2016. Approved projects may include trails, public art, benches or decorative landscaping.
“We’re excited to offer these grants in an effort to improve the community, providing a better experience for both residents and visitors,” said Assistant County Administrative Officer Guy Savage.
All applications should include specific details about the project and its overall budget, with a focus on the final outcome and its benefit to the community and unincorporated regions of the county, which are the areas of the county that are not governed by municipal/city government.
Applicants are encouraged to pursue projects that require low maintenance following their completion. Funds will not be used to maintain projects or pay for insurance.
The program was created in collaboration with the unincorporated County’s Tourism Business Improvement District (CBID) Advisory Board. After project applications are reviewed by a review committee comprises of members of the CBID Advisory Board and Administrative Office staff, recommendations will be sent to the Board of Supervisors for final approval. Agencies and organizations with approved projects will receive an agreement with terms and conditions for signature.
The grant program was approved by the Board of Supervisors as a part of the FY 2015-16 budget. The amount of funds available each fiscal year is at the discretion of the Board.
