HumanKind Fair Trade is marking  the expansion and remodel of its retail store at 982 Monterey Street, San Luis Obispo, with  a day-long  celebration highlighting fair trade food and artisan crafts  on  Saturday, Oct. 10, from 10-a.m.-6 p.m.

The expansion included removing the wall between HumanKind and previous tenant Bello Mundo, revamping the store configuration, and revising the color scheme to better showcase the products from around the world.    The store was closed for 6 days to make the changes, said store manager LynAnne Weist.

“Monterey Street has a special vibe,” she said.  “We are thrilled to stay here and still grow our mission of supporting some of the poorest of the poor from nearly 30 different countries.”

On Oct. 10, HumanKind Fair Trade will pay tribute to the many establishments of the past  who occupied these spaces, including Grahams Art Studio, the jazz section of Boo-Boo Records, Monterey Street Espresso and, of course,  Bello Mundo.  Bello Mundo has relocated down the block to 974 Monterey.

“Our hope is to not only give people the chance to see our new space, but also to walk down memory lane,” she said.

HumanKind Fair Trade helps provide fair income to artisans in the developing world by selling their products and telling their stories.    Products include clothing, accessories, Jewelry, home decor, candy and food, toys, social justice books and cards.  The store opened in July, 2009.
