Cracked screens, torn pants, and broken devices of all kinds are getting a second chance to function again. Thanks to the Repair Café movement, communities are organizing events where repair hobbyists and amateurs alike help one another repair their belongings. These events are steadily sprouting up across the US in an effort to eliminate the amount of waste that ends up in landfills, while empowering people to fix their own devices and save some money at the same time.

After observing the success of Repair Café, a local group is introducing San Luis Obispo’s first DIY repair event—Project Fix of the Central Coast.

Project Fix of the Central Coast is a free, monthly local repair event. Project Fix is assembling a team of volunteer fixers and tinkerers—people that know how to fix stuff and enjoy passing those skills on to other folks. Community members are invited to bring their broken devices—anything from electronics, to jewelry, to clothing. The goal is to help people fix whatever they bring in.

The first Project Fix event will be on Saturday, March 4th from 10:00am to 1:00pm (and will be recurring on the first Saturday of every month). Locations will vary from month to month and will be announced on the group’s Facebook page.

More information about the Project Fix of the Central Coast: March Event can be found here. All attendees are asked to fill out this form prior to the event.
