The California School Employees Association Chapter 89 has endorsed Measure D, the school facility funding bond measure appearing on the November ballot. The association represents all office, classroom, fiscal, and technical support classified staff for San Luis Coastal Unified School District.
Laurie Vallens, president of the CSEA Chapter 89, submitted a formal endorsement letter. In it, she states, “Our educational needs have outpaced our half-century-old school facilities, which were not designed to accommodate current or future use and technological demands,” adding, “We believe Measure D will help provide a modern framework for success in our district.”
Ann Dover of Los Osos, one of three volunteer co-chairs for the Central Coast Citizens for Measure D Committee, said the CSEA is another indication of Measure D’s growing support.
“More and more people are saying ‘yes’ on D,” said Dover. “And it’s encouraging to see that current and retired teachers and district employees aren’t the only supporters. People including parents, elected officials and local business and organizations are rallying behind our community’s children in support of their education.”
Measure D would raise $177 million for construction and renovation of district schools, including sorely needed upgrades for San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay High Schools and renovation of facilities at all other schools in the district. Bond funds cannot be used for operational costs, salaries or benefits.
San Luis Coastal Unified School District serves 7,500 kindergarten through 12th grade students residing in San Luis Obispo, Los Osos, Morro Bay, Avila Beach and unincorporated areas. Find out more information at www.SayYestoMeasureD.org.
