SLO Partners, an initiative of the San Luis Obispo County Office of Education, recently announced that its popular Ticket into Tech program is accepting applicants for the 2020 cohort. The part-time, online 30 week coding bootcamp, in partnership with Cal Poly Extended Education, will start January 28 and have graduates ready to hire in May. The first two bootcamps produced 45 much-needed tech workers for 12 local businesses.
“The Ticket into Tech program can benefit people of all ages and backgrounds who want to gain skills that will put them on the path to a head-of-household career here on the Central Coast, said Paula Mathias Fryer, Program Director at SLO Partners. “The first two programs were hugely successful – in terms of the level of interest received from applicants and local businesses looking to hire graduates, so we’re excited to be kicking off 2020 with another tech cohort.”
The outlook for future employment growth in tech remains positive in California, which saw an 86 percent increase in the number of job postings related to emerging technologies. Software and web developers were the largest and fastest growing category of tech jobs in 2018 and the median tech occupation wage is now nearly double the median national wage.
Over the course of 30 weeks, the part-time, online coding bootcamp will train in full-stack JavaScript, one of the most in-demand programming technologies to date. Classes are held two evenings a week, plus half days on Saturdays, for seven months. Several local businesses including Amazon, MINDBODY and Gaine Solutions have hired Ticket into Tech graduates as web developers, data analysts, SQL developers and other tech specialties. Companies with hiring needs should plan to interview candidates in May 2020.

The Ticket into Tech Apprenticeship Program is designed to help hands-on problem solvers, who may or may not have previous tech experience, enter a new career path through an accelerated training bootcamp, connect with growing companies and receive post-hire support.
The program is provided through a partnership between SLO Partners and Cal Poly Extended Education Coding Bootcamp. The program’s goal is to create head of household careers in the tech industry through apprenticeship in the local community.
