City of San Luis Obispo and partners celebrate project completion with ribbon cutting event.

After 17 months of construction, the Los Osos Valley Road (LOVR) Traffic Relief Project is nearly complete and the enhancements to the LOVR/U.S. 101 interchange are ready for public use. The project is set to finish two months ahead of schedule and is expected to be under the $24 million budget. The project completion was celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Hampton Inn & Suites parking lot, with the new LOVR interchange as a backdrop. Mayor Jan Marx, elected officials and representatives from Caltrans and San Luis Obispo Council of Governments (SLOCOG) were in attendance at the event.

The Los Osos Valley Road Traffic Relief Project was a collaborative effort between the City of San Luis Obispo, SLOCOG and Caltrans. The City of San Luis Obispo was the lead agency on the project with construction oversight provided by Caltrans.

“We’re very excited to reveal the enhancements to LOVR,” Project Manager Kyle Rowland said. “We could not have completed this project with such success without the help of our partners, San Luis Obispo Council of Governments and Caltrans, and the support and patience of the San Luis Obispo community.”

The goal of the project was to make the roadway a safer and more efficient place for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists. The enhancements include a new interchange bridge, additional traffic lanes and widened bike lanes. These improvements will ease vehicle congestion and simplify transit through the LOVR/U.S. 101 corridor.
