Return to Freedom is participating in GlobalGiving’s #MatchAMillion matching challenge. #GivingTuesday was fantastic for wild horses and burros thanks to Return to Freedom’s generous supporters.

In the first 14 hours, donors contributed more than $40,000 to help run the sanctuary, fund advocacy work and provide experiential learning opportunities by giving through the GlobalGiving.org platform. That includes matching funds from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Altogether, it will cover 2.6 percent of the annual funding needs. Now, an anonymous donor has stepped up to provide a 200 percent match on recurring gifts: Your $12.50 donation today = $162.50 in March 2017 to help wild horses.

All new recurring donations made until Dec. 31 will be matched at 200 percent, up to $100, upon the fourth donation by an anonymous donor, or until funds are depleted.

return-to-freedomrecurringHere’s how that works:

If you make a $12.50 monthly donation for four months, that translates to $162.50 after a 200 percent match in March 2017. So that $12.50 donation can grow to cover the cost of an educational program or even pay for seven bales of hay, from hay field to the horse’s mouth.

Another example: If you were to give $50 for four months, your donation would increase to $300 after the match — enough to pay for a humane observer to document a helicopter roundup for two days.

Today, Return to Freedom is ranked eighth overall over a host of other worthy charities. They’re proud to be the only domestic cause and animal welfare organization ranked in the top 15 among 3,207 projects. Return to Freedom ranks second among all GlobalGiving projects with 262 unique donors as of this writing. That puts Return to Freedom in the running for a bonus prize from GlobalGiving for most unique donors.

Return to Freedom hugely grateful to everyone who has given to help wild horses and burros.
