Two dozen nonprofit organizations were recently granted funding from the City of San Luis Obispo’s Promotional Coordinating Committee (PCC) to bring arts and cultural programs to the community this fiscal year.   

The PCC awarded a total of $119,000 in funding through two grant programs: The Cultural Grants-in-Aid Program and the Arts and Culture Recovery Grant. The Cultural Grants-in-Aid program is ongoing and supports organizations that seek to enhance the overall quality of life in San Luis Obispo with cultural, social and recreational activities. Grant funding for up to 16 additional organizations is still available. The deadline to apply for next quarter is 12 p.m. (noon) on September 15, 2022 and the application is available here.   

Below is a list of the organizations that applied for and were awarded grant funding:  

The Cultural Grants-in-Aid Program ($44,000) supports cultural, social, and recreational events and activities in the City of San Luis Obispo. Funding is limited to 25 organizations at $4,000 per application, with a bonus of up to $1,000 based on the addition of inclusion and sustainability practices. For this grant funding cycle, 9 organizations received funding to promote activities in the community: 

  • Cal Poly Arts, California International Guitar Festival  
  • Downtown SLO, Concerts in the Plaza 
  • Festival Mozaic, Festival Mozaic 
  • History Center of San Luis Obispo, La Fiesta de las Dallidet 
  • Hospice of SLO County, Light Up a Life 
  • History Revisited, Central Coast Renaissance Festival  
  • RACE Matters SLO County, Belonging 2022: Block Party at Farmer’s Market 
  • San Luis Obispo Museum of Art, Alyssa Monks art exhibition and public programming 
  • San Luis Obispo Repertory Theatre, Ring of Fire – The Music of Johnny Cash  

The Arts and Culture Recovery Grant ($75,000) program supports the recovery and resiliency of nonprofit arts and cultureorganizations that serve the community of San Luis Obispo. Through this one-time grant program, the City offered 15 organizational grants at $5,000 each to local non-profit arts and culture organizations through a competitive application process. The following 15 organizations received funding to support the recovery and resiliency efforts:
