Featured on Voice of America, Minnesota Public Radio and in the Washington Post, The Concert Truck revolutionizes the live music experience by turning a 16-foot box truck into a mobile concert hall, giving it the ability to bring professional, live, classical music anywhere in the country. Cal Poly Arts is presenting 10 free concerts throughout a weeklong engagement from March 13-17, including:
- Shell Beach Elementary, Creston Elementary, Cal Poly University, and Santa Maria-Bonita School District
- TMHA – Transitions-Mental Health Association
- HASLO – Housing Authority of San Luis Obispo
- HASBARCO – Housing Authority of the County of Santa Barbara
- ECHO – El Camino Homeless Organization
- Downtown SLO Farmers Market
Thanks to our generous donors, all of these private performances are provided at no cost to the schools or organizations. For the San Luis Obispo public, the Concert Truck will be performing on Thursday, March 14 at the Downtown SLO Farmers Market.
“We are thrilled to introduce The Concert Truck to the Central Coast. At Cal Poly Arts, we believe that the transformative power of the performing arts should be within reach for everyone, irrespective of socio-economic status. The Concert Truck exemplifies this commitment by bringing exceptional musical experiences directly to diverse audiences throughout our region.” – Molly Clark, Cal Poly Arts Director
Impassioned by their love for music, pianists Nick Luby and Susan Zhang (pictured) converted a 16-foot box truck into a fully functioning mobile concert hall, complete with lights, sound system and piano. Since then, The Concert Truck has presented concerts across the country in city streets, music and arts festivals, schools, neighborhoods, parks… anywhere you can think to park a truck. For the San Luis Obispo engagement, The Concert Truck founder Nick Luby (Pianist) will be joined by pianist Mikael Darmani for the performances.
This event series is sponsored by Suzan Boatman, Sharon & John Dobson, Marti Lindholm & Allan Smith, Hampton Inn & Suites San Luis Obispo and Tablas Creek Vineyard.
