Cal Poly’s Kennedy Library is scheduled to reopen its doors to the campus and local community on Monday, Sept. 15. After a two-year transformation, the library now features modernized spaces, new technologies and expanded amenities that reflect the university’s commitment to student success and Learn by Doing.

“This project has been about much more than a building; it’s about creating a space where students can connect, learn and thrive,” said Carla Brown, senior project manager for the Kennedy Library transformation. “We’ve worked to ensure every design choice supports the library’s mission and the diverse needs of our campus community.”

The transformed library is designed to better support collaborative learning, study and student life. The transformation includes:

  • A new main stair and inviting entry experience
  • Relocated and expanded Julian’s Café on the first floor
  • A reimagined courtyard and new learning labs
  • A Special Collections showcase and updated shelving for book collections
  • More study and classroom seating, including expanded Hub24 access
  • Streamlined service points and state-of-the-art signage throughout
  • A complete building performance update, including new heating and cooling systems, enhanced roofing, upgraded electrical systems and improved accessibility features.

During the transformation, Kennedy Library services and programs continued across multiple temporary locations on campus. Upon opening, Kennedy Library will once again serve as the heart of campus life — a vibrant, welcoming environment that encourages innovation and collaboration.
