The Cal Poly Jazz Combos will present a fall showcase at 7:30 p.m. Friday, November 15, in Room 218 of the Davidson Music Center. Four jazz combos will perform; each will play a set of well-known jazz standards, contemporary works, pop songs and student original compositions. Dylan Johnson will direct the groups, which will also perform for the Fall Jazz Concert on Thursday, November 21. More information is on the department’s website.
The Thursday, November 21, “Sounds of Rhythm” concert will introduce new Music Department faculty member Jamaal Baptiste. He will lead the University Jazz Band and Vocal Jazz Ensemble as the groups perform variety or arrangements, including an R&B- and soul-influenced version of the Bee Gees’ “How Deep Is Your Love.” Dylan Johnson will direct four jazz combos, which will perform a jazz standards and original student works.
