Canzona Women’s Ensemble announces its upcoming concert, Songs of the Americas, taking place on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. Conducted by Artistic Director Cricket Handler, this program will celebrate the rich musical traditions from across the Americas, bringing to life stories of freedom and cultural heritage.
The performance will feature jazz vocalist Inga Swearingen, whose unique blend of jazz and folk influences will lend a compelling liveliness to the concert.
Additionally, Canzona is honored to feature a few songs with Paso Robles High School’s Forte Choir, directed by Canzona singer Gaylene Ewing. These talented young singers will join Canzona in presenting various choral works showcasing the power of multi-generational collaboration in song.
Among the standout pieces for the afternoon will be “Canto ‘E Liberta,” a powerful work that explores themes of freedom and resilience, and “La Llorona,” a hauntingly beautiful Mexican folk song that tells the story of love and loss. The repertoire will reflect the musical heritage of both North and South America, combining classical, folk and contemporary influences in a performance that celebrates the depth and diversity of these cultures.
Canzona Women’s Ensemble is excited to bring this meaningful concert to audiences throughout the Central Coast. Songs of the Americas promises to be a stunning musical journey that will resonate deeply with listeners of all ages.
