Author Esha Chhabra will be a featured speaker at the Central Coast Bioneers Conference which will be held October 4-5 at the Octagon Barn.  Ms. Chhabra is part of the Social Justice series on Saturday October 5, which will also feature speakers on empowering Latino voices, democracy vs. Big Tech, rematriation of indigenous lands and nature-based solutions for urban injustice.

Chhabra, a writer and journalist for The Guardian, the Washington Post, and New York Times, focuses on sustainability, international development and the rise of mission-driven brands in her writing.  She will be speaking about her book, Working to Restore: Harnessing the Power of Regenerative Business to Heal the World, which highlights businesses who are making a difference in areas such as supply chains, regenerative agriculture, thoughtful tourism, wellness, energy and finance.  “The businesses [featured in the book] were started with the intent to feel closer to what it means to be human,” says Chhabra.  “Capitalism has put us on a path where we have lost connection with humanity.”

San Luis Obispo County is notable for its attempt to encourage green practices for its business community.  As part of the statewide California Green Business Network (CAGBN), ECOSLO continues its commitment to helping local businesses enhance their sustainability practices through their Green Business Program. The program offers free technical assistance to small and medium-sized businesses, aimed at saving resources and reducing costs while fostering a greener community.

ECOSLO’s program provides support to San Luis Obispo County businesses by offering expert guidance and incentives to implement eco-friendly practices. Achieving certification as a Green Business not only demonstrates a company’s dedication to sustainability but also reassures customers and the community of their commitment to environmental stewardship.

“Being a Certified Green Business is more than just a certification; it’s a clear signal to your customers and community that you are serious about sustainability,” said Kendra Paulding, Executive Director of ECOSLO. “It confirms that your business is taking meaningful actions to conserve resources, prevent pollution and comply with environmental regulations across various areas, including waste management, energy use, water conservation, pollution prevention and air quality.”

The two-day conference will feature environmental and climate themes on Friday, October 4th.  On Saturday, October 5, along with the social justice series, there will be a free repair café from 10:00 a.m. -2:00 p.m. and a fundraiser at 4:00 p.m. for the newly planned Upper Salinas River Center.

One day or two-day tickets can be purchased at adult and student rates.  Go to https://ecologistics.org/ccb-conference-2024/ for more information and to purchase tickets.
