On Oct. 5, symphony goers will get to experience the awe-inspiring power of one of the most remarkable instruments in the world—the Forbes Organ—right here in your own backyard!

San Luis Obispo Symphony is literally rolling out the red carpet for its 2024/25 “Classics” season at the Performing Arts Center San Luis Obispo with “Organ Spectacular,” an unforgettable concert featuring acclaimed organ virtuoso Felix Hell as the soloist. There will be a red carpet and photographer at the opening-night event, as well as a pre-concert discussion with the guest artist at 6:30 p.m. that is included with event tickets. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m.

“This concert is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to hear the Forbes Organ, paired with Felix Hell’s masterful performance, right here in San Luis Obispo,” said Executive Director Rachel Sabalboro. “We are incredibly fortunate to have such a prestigious instrument in our community and we invite everyone to experience its beauty.”

At the heart of the program is Belgian composer Joseph Jongen’s iconic Sinfonia Concertante, Op. 81, showcasing the Forbes Organ’s grandeur and versatility. With over 2,700 pipes, the Forbes Organ is a rare treasure that adds immense cultural value to our community—an instrument that can be experienced in only a handful of concert halls across the world.

The evening will also include Ravel’s Menuet Antique, a delicate yet stirring dance piece that opens the concert with a touch of nostalgia. The night will conclude with the passionate sweep of Brahms’ Symphony No. 4 in E Minor, a masterpiece of sublime emotion and depth.

Tickets are selling fast for this extraordinary event, generously sponsored by Len Jarrott and Bert and Candace Forbes. Don’t miss your chance to witness the power and beauty of the Forbes Organ in a night that promises to be unforgettable. There is also an open rehearsal, called “No Ties Allowed,” offered for free to the community at 11 a.m. the same day.
