Festival Mozaic is honored to present the extremely talented Sierra Hull performing with Dead Horses on November 11, 2021 at 7:30 p.m., hosted at the Clark Center for the Performing Arts.

In her first 25 years alone, singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Sierra Hull hit more milestones than many musicians accomplish in a lifetime. After making her Grand Ole Opry debut at the age of 10, the Tennessee-bred virtuoso mandolinist played Carnegie Hall at age 12, then landed a deal with Rounder Records just a year later. Hull’s widely acclaimed album Weighted Mind — a Béla Fleck-produced effort nominated for Best Folk Album at the 2017 Grammy Awards — was described by NPR as “stunning,” with Hull’s artistic trajectory compared by the Chicago Tribune to bluegrass crossover star Alison Krauss.

Hull’s fourth full-length for Rounder is an elegantly inventive and endlessly captivating album called 25 Trips. Revealing her profound warmth as a storyteller, 25 Trips finds Hull shedding light on the beauty and chaos and sometimes sorrow of growing up and getting older. Encompassing everything from bluegrass to folk-pop to ethereal alt-rock, 25 Trips remains rooted in the sophisticated musicianship that Hull has cultivated almost her entire life.

Opening act, Dead Horses isn’t a band in the conventional sense, but rather an intimate, folk-inspired conversation between two close friends. As Dead Horses, guitarist/singer Sarah Vos and bassist Daniel Wolff have released three studio albums to date, an Audiotree Live Session, three singles, a two-song EP, and, most recently an eclectic five-song EP, Birds. Together they weave a vibrant patchwork of classic and contemporary influences that span trad roots, indie- folk, and other experimental musical idioms. Rolling Stone lauded the duo’s “smoky vocals [and] cinematic lyrics” and named the band an “Artist You Need to Know.”
