House of Bread is celebrating their grand opening of their second location on Saturday, July 15 at 1025 Farmhouse Lane, across from the airport in SLO.
Between the hours of 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., House of Bread will be selling .25 cent cinnamon rolls, making a 100-pound cinnamon roll and slicing it up at 11:00 a.m. to share with anybody who wants to take a bite out of the hugest cinnamon roll ever! There will be raffles every hour for chances to win free baking classes, gift baskets, and gift certificates. On top of all that, there will be a six piece Still Kickin Band playing from 11-2 p.m., and happy hour drink pricing of $5 drafts, mimosas, hard kombucha as well as $8 premium wines.
Sheila McCann, opened the first House of Bread on Higuera St. Downtown San Luis Obispo in 1996 after practicing law locally for six years. She named her signature bread Grandma’s White after her beloved Grandma, whose picture is on the wall next to plaque that states “Grandma” McCann 1888-1988. Yes, she lived to be 100 years old from consuming all that good bread.
“My first childhood memory was baking bread with my Grandma. I knew I wanted to open a business that combined the nostalgia and wholesomeness of yesteryears with today’s desire for a healthier lifestyle,” McCann said.
The new location is designed to better compete and grow in today’s marketplace.
“When I started House of Bread twenty-seven years ago, the bread in the grocery store was awful and there were no other retail micro bakeries in the county. Today, the variety of bread in the grocery store has improved, and there is additional competition. This is all good, because it keeps me redeveloping and designing the business model”.
The Farmhouse location has indoor and outdoor seating and an expanded menu. “All the same baked goods will be made on site. However, the new location allows me to introduce new items such as espresso drinks, made to order breakfast items such as Top of the Morning Avocado Toast, and lunch items such as the Red Pepper Cheese Steak, states McCann.
All House of Bread products rely on high-quality natural ingredients from the fair trade organic coffee to the natural deli meats from Boar’s Head.
