Inaugural mule-fest to be held Oct. 14 at SLO Mission Plaza.
Kick-Ass MuleFest, a first-of-its-kind fund-raising festival will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14 at Mission Plaza in San Luis Obispo.
The festival will feature SLO County restaurants and bars pouring their best vodka, whisky, rum, gin or non-alcoholic mules for participants to enjoy and vote on. There will also be food trucks, vendors and live entertainment
“We wanted to create a community event that would have something for everyone,” event manager J. Bird said. “Bartenders get to show off, ticket holders get a great value for their money, and vendors have the best audience in California. We think people will really enjoy themselves here.”
A big part of what Bird said she thinks makes Kick-Ass MuleFest special is that to level the playing field for bartender competitors, the festival itself will provide the base spirit for each mule, meaning that every vodka mule, for example, will be made with the same vodka. It will be up to the individual bartenders to decide the rest of their recipes.
The festival will raise money for Gala Pride and Diversity Center, which provides social support, advocacy and resources to San Luis Obispo County’s LGBTQ+ community.
