Rancho Burro Donkey Sanctuary, a non-profit organization established in 2016, dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and lifetime care of abused, abandoned and neglected donkeys, is thrilled to announce its official ribbon-cutting ceremony in partnership with the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce. The event will celebrate the opening of their new 46-acre sanctuary and state-of-the-art barn focused on donkey health and community outreach.

The ribbon cutting will be by invitation and will take place on Tuesday, March 25 at 11:30 a.m. at the sanctuary’s new location. This significant milestone marks a major step forward in Rancho Burro Donkey Sanctuary’s mission to provide a safe and nurturing haven for donkeys in need.

“We are incredibly excited to share this momentous occasion with the community and the SLO Chamber of Commerce,” said Carlen & Jim Eckford, Founders at Rancho Burro Donkey Sanctuary. “This new 46-acre sanctuary and barn will significantly enhance our ability to care for and rehabilitate these gentle animals, rescue future donkeys in need and expand our community education and involvement efforts.”

Rancho Burro Donkey Sanctuary is committed to providing a loving and permanent home for donkeys that have suffered from abuse, neglect or abandonment. The new sanctuary features ample grazing space, a modern barn equipped with a medical room for specialized care, a classroom for community education programs and numerous event spaces for crucial fundraising efforts.

The sanctuary’s mission includes:
Rescue and Rehabilitation: Providing immediate care and long-term rehabilitation for donkeys in distress.
Lifetime Care: Offering a safe and loving environment for donkeys to live out their natural lives.
Community Education: Educating the public about donkey welfare and responsible animal care.
Community Workshops: Fun private events that raise awareness and crucial funds for the sanctuary.

“We rely heavily on the support of our community to continue our vital work,” added Jim Eckford. “We are thrilled to celebrate this milestone and share more about the goodness of donkeys.”

The ribbon-cutting ceremony will include a brief presentation about the sanctuary’s mission, a tour of the new facilities and an opportunity to connect with the resident donkeys.
