Revive Dive, a nonprofit organization headquartered in San Luis Obispo, is making significant strides in its mission to clean up trash beneath the Central Coast piers and along coastal waterways. Rooted in a commitment to environmental preservation, pier advocacy and restorative justice, Revive Dive is transforming underwater landscapes, while also providing educational and community service opportunities to at-risk youth and adults seeking opportunities.
Program participants will receive the hands-on education necessary to help Revive Dive achieve its goals. This includes scuba instruction with the ultimate goal of becoming a certified diver as well as the processes of underwater cleanup while preserving the local ecosystems; all while providing a valuable community service alongside program volunteers and helping to keep our local beaches pristine.
“To effect change, one must first dive beneath the surface and enrich what lies below,” says Taylor Taff, Founder and local business owner. “With Revive Dive, we hope to expound upon that sentiment in both a metaphorical and literal sense to focus on the health and longevity of our coastal marine environment, piers, and community.”
Revive Dive is working with local agencies such as ECOSLO and Tenera Environmental. These partnerships will broaden our reach and scope allowing us to achieve a greater positive impact on our local environment. “Revive Dive is a unique and exciting organization to have on the Central Coast as part of the environmental community to keep our waters and beaches clean across SLO county,” shares Ellie Howell, Volunteer Coordinator for ECOSLO.
Revive Dive’s commitment to the Five D’s of Diving:
-Dive – Cleanup events happen below the surface. Learn the fundamentals of diving enabling members to be part of the cleanup efforts.
-Donate – Not interested in diving or don’t have the time to dedicate but still want to help clean up the coastline? Donations help fund cleanup efforts and volunteer materials.
-Delve – Harness the sense of adventure and exploration while aiding the community.
-Dispose – Less trash in the water leads to improved environmental health, enhanced water quality and preservation of marine life.
-Dive – Connect with other members of the community in a fun, exciting and rewarding way.
Revive Dive invites the community, media outlets, and potential partners to dive in, whether through event attendance or sharing the cause with a friend. They are actively recruiting certified scuba divers, instructors and scientists.
