The San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden has announced its autumn Plant Sale. This highly anticipated event is an opportunity for the non-profit SLO Botanical Garden to showcase and sell a wide array of environmentally sustainable Mediterranean species perfectly suited for the Central Coast climate. Educational booths and garden-related goods from local vendors will add to the festivities during the two-day event, Friday, October 28th (members only), and Saturday, October 29th (open to the public).
Attendees are encouraged to meander SLO Botanical Garden’s surrounding trails and view the beautiful plants displayed by their region of origin. Executive Director, Chenda Lor, explained, “our volunteers have propagated a huge selection of plants proven to thrive in our Mediterranean climate, including local California plants, succulents, and some unique specimens native to Chile, South Africa, Australia, and the Mediterranean Basin, all suitable for home or business landscapes.” SLO Botanical Garden makes informed landscaping decisions easier through the inclusion of labels and signs that identify each plant in the garden, and highlight noteworthy features such as wildfire resistance or drought tolerance.
The SLO Botanical Garden garden emphasizes education, horticulture, research, art, resource conservation, environmental stewardship, and community engagement. The Plant Sale is a key fundraising opportunity for the non-profit organization, and proceeds from the sale directly benefit the objectives of SLO Botanical Garden.
Garden Members are invited to enjoy early access, Friday, October 28, from 10 AM to 4 PM. The community-at-large is welcome to complimentary admission, Saturday, October 29, from 10 AM to 4 PM. Enthusiasts are encouraged to become Garden Members to enjoy a host of benefits and support this regional gem. Proceeds from the sale benefit the SLO Botanical Garden and its continued educational programming.
