The City of SLO has started work on SLO in Motion, a series of neighborhood improvement projects that will boost safe mobility, replace aging infrastructure, connect communities, and maintain our streets through spring 2023.
SLO in Motion currently consists of six capital improvement projects, many of which are occurring in the north Broad Street area of San Luis Obispo, including:
- Transportation improvements including street and mobility maintenance, repaving, new curb ramps and sidewalks
- Replacement of aging sewer collection pipes along Verde Drive, Luneta Drive, Ramona Drive and Broad Street
- Construction of Cerro San Luis Greenway, a 1.7-mile route that prioritizes bicycle and pedestrian travel from the north Broad Street area to downtown SLO
- Addition of a new neighborhood park in the north Broad Street area where a community garden currently exists
Project Goals
- Make it easier and safer to travel through the area whether in a car, on a bike or on foot.
- Replace aging sewer pipelines to prevent messy breaks and spills.
- Create a key connection for bike routes within the community.
- Provide recreational opportunities and a park in a key area of the city.
- Provide accurate and responsive, two-way communication about the project to those impacted or interested.
Project Timeline
Construction for each project is expected to take 4-6 months with all the improvements anticipated to be completed in 2023.
Cost and Funding Sources
The City is investing more than $11 million on all of these improvements. The SLO in Motion projects are funded by various funding sources, including:
- Sewer Fund
- Water Fund

- Voter-approved local revenue measure (Measure G-20)
