After almost two years of “intermission” and limited performances due to the pandemic, San Luis Obispo Repertory Theatre will celebrate their grand re-opening and 75 years of live theatre on the Central Coast with THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES! This delightful “jukebox” musical is the perfect choice to liven up dark, winter days and lighten up our pandemic-weary spirits. Spanning 10+ years of popular music history, The Marvelous Wonderettes features over 30 classic hits from the 1950s and ’60s, including Lollipop, Stupid Cupid, You Don’t Own Me, It’s My Party, Wedding Bell Blues, Leader of the Pack, Rescue Me and R-E-S-P-E-C-T, just to name a few. In Act One, the storyline centers on four best friends at their 1958 high school prom, drafted at the last minute to provide the entertainment when the scheduled act can’t make it. In Act Two, the four women return for their 10-year reunion in 1968 to find that much has changed – especially the music – but much remains the same.
THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES opens Friday, February 4 and runs through March 6 with performances Wednesdays through Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. SLO REP is located at 888 Morro Street in downtown San Luis Obispo. Ticket prices range from $40-$60 and are available at www.slorep.org or by calling (805) 786-2440.
