Spokes, an organization providing resources to support and empower the nonprofit community, is now accepting registration for its 2025 Board Academy, a series of online educational sessions for new, prospective or current nonprofit board members.
Held each Tuesday—with the exception of the last session, a Thursday— from January 14 to March 6, 2025, Spokes Board Academy offers eight, hour-long sessions on the following topics: Board Basics, Legal & Ethical Issues, Governance, Fundraising and Resource Development, Assessing Nonprofit Financial Health, Insurance & Risk Management, Maintaining a Healthy Board and Board Diversity & Inclusivity.
Spokes Board Academy sessions are taught by a primarily local faculty of field experts experienced in working with nonprofits. Attendees can hand-select preferred courses, or register for five or more sessions for a 20 percent discount. Advance registration is required and can be completed at www.spokesfornonprofits.org.
“Strong, well-prepared boards are essential to the success of our nonprofit community,” said Michael Simkins, chief operating officer of Spokes. “Board Academy is a great opportunity for anyone serving on a board—or curious about what it takes—to learn the basics, refresh their knowledge, and build key skills for effective governance. We encourage local organizations and individuals to take advantage of this valuable resource.”
Cost includes a $10 registration fee (waived for Spokes members) and is $40 per session for the general public and $25 per session for Spokes members. A 20 percent discount is available to those registering for five or more sessions. Additional discounts are available for organizations registering two or more individuals.
