The City of San Luis Obispo Parks & Recreation Department’s Ranger Service invites community members to learn about and provide input on the newly proposed pilot bike park at Laguna Lake Park next week. Meeting will be held at the SLO Library Community Room at 995 Palm Street, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m., on Wednesday March 13.
Community involvement is crucial in shaping the future of outdoor recreation spaces and this upcoming community meeting will provide community members with an opportunity to hear more about the proposed project, share insights, and contribute to the effort in making Laguna Lake Park’s pilot bike park a success.
An all-levels bike park is one of the top five short-term priorities of the City’s Parks & Recreation’s Blueprint for the Future (master plan), which aims to make San Luis Obispo’s parks more vibrant and accessible and sets out to strengthen communities by carefully planning and setting up parks and recreation spaces through 2041. This project will be designed to provide outdoor recreation opportunities for children and families, create gradual features to help entry-level riders build and advance their off-road skills, and install more advanced features for riders to progress and increase confidence. Construction of the bike park is expected to begin this spring and will be completed in phases.
This project will serve as a pilot park until a proposed development of a permanent park is approved. The pilot bike park will be designed and constructed in phases over the next several months by Ranger Service staff and volunteers with the opportunity to evaluate and plan a professionally built bike park in the future.
