The City of San Luis Obispo’s Parks & Recreation Department is excited to announce the grand re-opening of the beloved Laguna Lake Dog Park. The City’s only dog park will be opening again on Friday, May 30, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. and the community is invited to come celebrate.
During the celebration, community members and their furry friends can explore the new park amenities, participate in dog games, and visit information booths. Laguna Lake Dog Park’s renovations include:
- Full perimeter fencing around the 3-acre property with separate areas for small and large dogs.
- ADA upgrades and new pathways for enhanced accessibility.
- Upgraded turf areas, bark mulch, and improved drainage to maintain the natural landscape.
- New play structures for dogs (in partnership with local community groups)
- Additional seating areas and drinking fountains with dog bowls.
- Additional landscaping, irrigation, and new trees to enhance the park’s beauty.
“What makes this dog park so special is the importance of socialization for both our four-legged family members and the dog owners,” said Greg Avakian, the City’s Parks and Recreation Director. “These long-awaited upgrades will provide a safer and more accessible dog park for all of our community to enjoy.”
Park enhancements took place from September 2024 through May 2025 and the park was improved as part of the The Parks + Recreation Blueprint for the Future to create a more resilient, vibrant, inclusive, and forward-thinking community. With the blueprint’s overarching objective being to provide a more accessible opportunity for all types of dogs and owners to enjoy this special off-leash dog location.
