The City of San Luis Obispo will recognize volunteers as part of Volunteer Appreciation Month from April 1 to April 30, 2024.

Volunteer Appreciation Month is a time to recognize individuals and groups who actively support the community through volunteerism and civic engagement. Local volunteers and their families and friends are invited to join the City of San Luis Obispo at several events and activities.

April 2: City Council Meeting – Mayor Erica A. Stewart read a special proclamation recognizing Volunteer Appreciation Month in San Luis Obispo and the City Council heard how volunteers are making a difference in our new Adopt-a-Park program.

April 25: Farmers’ Market – The City’s Volunteer Program will host a booth at the Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market. Stop by, say hi, grab some swag, and learn about the ways you can make a difference in SLO.

April 26: Volunteer Appreciation Gathering – City of SLO volunteers will be celebrated by program staff, City leaders and City Council members at this special morning event. Active volunteers will receive an invitation.

Looking for ways to get involved and give back?

Community members also have several volunteer opportunities throughout the month of April. Sign up to volunteer – as a part of a team or on your own – at Engage SLO by browsing and responding to a wide array of volunteer opportunities supporting the advancement of City initiatives and goals.

The City provides volunteers with this user-friendly dashboard to view and sign up for roles, manage their schedules, track their contributions, and access valuable resources. Engage SLO is a great online portal for students, workplace volunteer programs, faith-based group members and those who want to play an active role in bettering their community.

Here are a few upcoming volunteer opportunities during the month of April:

April 12 & 20: Help keep downtown shared spaces beautiful, clean and safe for all to enjoy. Sign up here.

April 18: Help the City’s Human Resources Department with a morning event. Sign up here.
