With summer fast approaching, there are several upcoming changes to City of San Luis Obispo Transit services that everyone should know: The SLO Transit summer bus schedule starts July 1 and the Old SLO Trolley will run on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays starting on July 5.

These changes reflect community feedback requesting more consistent service year-round and aligns with the goals outlined in the recently adopted Short Range Transit Plan.

“Summer is a great opportunity for community members to enjoy the liveliness of downtown, said Alex Fuchs, Mobility Services Business Manager. “Expanding Trolley service to Fridays and Saturdays gives people an opportunity to experience the development happening in the Upper Monterey Business District. It also gives tourists easy access to our downtown from many hotels in that area.”

This year, the summer bus schedule will start later (on Tuesday, July 1, 2025) and end earlier (on Sunday, August 31, 2025) than in previous years, allowing the academic schedule with its extended service hours to operate for a longer portion of the year. Riders can still expect hourly service on all routes, with earlier daily end times.

SLO Transit Summer Service Hours:

  • Route 1A: 6:15 a.m.  – 8 p.m.
  • Route 1B: 6:45 a.m.  – 6:30 p.m.
  • Route 2A: 6:15 a.m.  – 8:05 p.m.
  • Route 2B: 6:45 a.m.  – 6:35 p.m.
  • Route 3A: 6:20 a.m.  – 8:10 p.m.
  • Route 3B: 6:45 a.m.  – 6:40 p.m.
  • Route 4A: 6 a.m. – 8:05 p.m.
  • Route 4B; 6:15 a.m. – 6:50 p.m.

The regular academic-year schedule, including extended evening service, will resume on September 1, 2025, to meet increased ridership.

In addition to Thursday evening service, the Old SLO Trolley will run on Fridays and Saturdays to accommodate the increase in summer visitors. Friday and Saturday service will begin on July 5 and run from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. through September 27. The Old SLO Trolley runs on a continuous 30-minute loop from downtown to the Upper Monterey business district and back.

Riders are encouraged to plan ahead using the SLO Transit App (Apple) or SLO Transit App (Google Play), the web-based SLO Transit Rider Portal, or pick up printed schedules at the Mobility Services Office, 1260 Chorro Street, Suite B.
