The County of San Luis Obispo Board of Supervisors recently approved about $7.66 million across three funding sources for affordable housing and homelessness response efforts within San Luis Obispo County.
About $4.1 million is going to projects and programs in San Luis Obispo city limits that align with the City’s goals of reducing and preventing homelessness.
This includes about $2.7 million to People’s Self-Help Housing for the Calle Joaquin Homekey Project to convert a Motel 6 in San Luis Obispo into permanent housing that will help reduce and prevent homelessness. It also includes about $1.4 million to Community Action Partnership of San Luis Obispo County for the 40 Prado Homeless Services Center to provide shelter and services 24/7, 365 days a year that help individuals and families improve their health and move toward self-sufficiency.
“The County of San Luis Obispo is committed to sustaining our homelessness response efforts while also pursuing new, evidence-based opportunities to prevent and end homelessness,” said George Solis, Administrative Services Manager for the Homeless Services Division. “By supporting both immediate needs and long-term solutions, we aim to create a more stable and supportive environment for all residents of San Luis Obispo County.”
On May 21, 2024, the County Board of Supervisors allocated funds from the California Department of Housing and Community Development’s Permanent Local Housing Allocation, the California Interagency Council on Homelessness’s Homeless Housing, Assistance and Prevention program and the County’s commitment of Senate Bill 1090 funds. In addition to the programs and projects funded within city limits, the County also allocated funds to:
- 5Cities Homeless Coalition for their emergency shelter program, rapid re-housing and homeless prevention program and countywide transitional-age youth program.
- Housing Authority of SLO County (with El Camino Homeless Coalition as a subrecipient) for their North County Permanent Supportive and Shelter Services.
- Restorative Partners for The Path Forward Project.
