A California law, the TRUTH Act, requires local law enforcement to hold annual community forums if they allow ICE access to individuals. The SLO County Sheriffโs office will conduct the mandated TRUTH Act Forum at the January 27 meeting of the SLO County Board of Supervisors. The time to be announced in advance of the meeting. The TRUTH Act Hearing will be broadcast on the Board of Supervisors live meeting at: https://www.slocounty.ca.gov/
According to the Immigrant Legal Resource Center, 70% of ICE arrests result from transfers of undocumented individuals to ICE from other law enforcement agencies. The TRUTH Act requires that before law enforcement agencies can allow ICE to interview an undocumented individual in custody, they must present that individual with a written consent form in a language they understand. An undocumented individual can decide whether or not to be interviewed. If they choose to be interviewed, they may require that their lawyer be present.
