The California Arts Council has announced a grant award of $16,203 to the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art as part of its Arts Education Exposure Grant Program. It is one of only 47 grants awarded as part of the Arts Education Exposure grant program and the only one in San Luis Obispo County.

With support from the California Arts Council, SLOMA will provide free guided museum gallery tours, curriculum support and teachers’ guides for schools. The project will also support transportation subsidies for Title 1 schools to remove financial barriers to arts participation, as well as targeted summer programming for kids from historically underserved and underresourced communities in San Luis Obispo County.

The San Luis Obispo Museum of Art was featured as part of a larger announcement from the California Arts Council, with grant awards totaling almost $19.5 million for more than 800 grants supporting artists, culture bearers and cultural workers throughout the state of California.

“Art makes us who we are in California,” said California Arts Council Executive Director Danielle Brazell. “We are defined by our creative workforce, and our everyday lives are informed, enriched and uplifted by the artists and cultural workers across our state. On behalf of the CAC, I offer my sincere congratulations – and my gratitude – to each of our award recipients for this grant cycle.”

“We are so honored to be one of only three recipients in SLO County for this round of California Arts Council funding across all grant programs,” said Executive Director, Leann Standish. “Our work in making the arts accessible and welcoming is not possible without grants like this.” Central Coast teachers and school administrators can book their free school group tours at sloma.org/visit/tours or by calling the Museum of Art at (805) 543-8562.
