Over-consumption of goods and excessive gift-giving can harm the environment. The SLO Climate Coalition shares how you can limit your impact by eco-friendly gifting.

Sustainable Holiday Tips:

  • Charitable Gifts – Donate to a charity the recipient cares about.
  • Homemade Gifts – Consider gifting homemade items like baked goods, jam, a meal, a piece of art, potted plants or flowers.
  • Experiences – Help create memories by gifting tickets to the theater, a museum exhibit, an outdoor adventure or a sporting event.
  • Buy Eco-Friendly or Second Hand – Think reusable like water bottles and shopping bags. You can find unique gifts to recycle from thrift stores or in your own home.
  • Shop Locally – Keep small businesses thriving and reduce your carbon footprint! Check out the Green Businesses in SLO County.
  • Wrap Sustainably – Aim for zero waste by utilizing newspaper, paper bags, old sheet music or fabric scraps as gift wrap and twine or plant material to decorate.
