The SLO County Air Pollution Control District (SLO County APCD) is announcing the launch of the Lawn and Garden Electrification Program. The just over $189,000 program can help commercial landscapers, nonprofit organizations, public agencies, schools/universities, and commercial businesses (non landscaping) replace their old fuel-based lawn and garden equipment with electric.

For the first 90 days of the program (January 13 – April 13, 2025), $100,000 of the program funds will be reserved for applicants that apply to replace their fuel-based equipment with electric equipment where the total project cost is under $5,000. The remaining funding will be available for projects up to $30,000 (if your project is over $30,000 before April 13, please email or call SLO County APCD to check availability of funds prior to applying). After those 90 days, all remaining program funds will be available for electric lawn and garden project applications, not to exceed the $30,000 equipment maximum incentive.

Small businesses (as defined in the program guidelines) may be eligible for the max funding amounts if equipment is purchased locally (from a business in SLO County). Large businesses, per state guidelines, are required to pay a 15% cost share. Projects will be funded on a first-come, first-served basis determined by when applications are deemed complete by APCD staff.

The SLO County APCD is excited for the opportunity to serve the community with this program and reduce potential health effects from harmful exposure to fuel-based lawn and garden equipment.

To qualify, residents must complete an online application and provide the following:

  1. Business or Contractor License (if a commercial business or landscaping business).
  2. Proof your business or nonprofit services SLO County (if not located in SLO County).
  3. Funding Documentation (if you are securing other funding or discounts for this project).
  4. Copies of your equipment quotes matching the equipment you apply for in the application.
  5. Information on your existing equipment: equipment category, manufacturer (if known), model (if known), engine family (if known).

If you are not able to access a computer or mobile device to complete the application, you may visit the SLO County APCD office at 3433 Roberto Court in San Luis Obispo for assistance.
