The San Luis Obispo Repertory Theatre is excited to announce the upcoming Academy of Creative Theatre production of Twelfth Night, running from January 10-19, 2025. This charming and witty Shakespearean comedy will be brought to life by an ensemble of talented local students, offering a fresh and vibrant interpretation of one of the Bard’s most beloved works.
Set in the fantastical land of Illyria, Twelfth Night tells the story of Viola, a young woman shipwrecked and separated from her twin brother, who disguises herself as a man and enters the service of Duke Orsino. What follows is a whirlwind of mistaken identities, romantic entanglements and hilarious misunderstandings that culminate in an uproarious celebration of love, folly and the chaos of life.
Directed by Shannon Peters, the production will offer a unique take on this classic play, emphasizing its timeless themes of love, gender and self-discovery while bringing a fresh perspective through the talents of young performers. The production will feature a diverse cast of student actors, showcasing their skills in an exciting, high-energy presentation of Shakespeare’s enduring masterpiece.
“We are thrilled to offer this opportunity for students to engage with one of Shakespeare’s most joyous and complex plays,” says Kevin Harris, Managing Artistic Director of San Luis Obispo Repertory Theatre. “Twelfth Night is a beautiful exploration of love, identity and the confusion that often comes with it. This production will be a testament to the incredible talent of our local students and we look forward to sharing it with our community.”
