What should the City of San Luis Obispo’s top priorities be starting July 1, 2023? The City is seeking community feedback via an online survey to better prioritize City resources and budget to achieve the goals that are most important to the community over the next two years.
Community members can weigh in by completing the City’s online 2023-25 Community Priorities Survey at www.slocity.org/OpenCityHall. The deadline to submit feedback is December 15, 2022 at 11:59 pm.
“Civic participation is the cornerstone to any good democracy and local government. We encourage anyone who lives in, works in, or goes to school in SLO to voice your thoughts today about your priorities” said City Manager Derek Johnson. “The feedback we receive from community members will directly influence what the City’s budget and work program priorities over the next couple of years.”
This input will be considered as City Council establishes the Major City Goals that will guide the City’s 2023-25 Financial Plan. The goals identified will represent the most important, highest priority goals for the City to work toward accomplishing from July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2025.
Every two years, the City invites the community to help establish the top priorities to make San Luis Obispo an even better place to live, work and play. Through the City’s budgeting process, the City Council then matches the resources necessary to achieve these priorities while ensuring core services are funded and integrate them into the next two-year financial plan.
The Major City Goals for the current financial plan focus on:
- Economic recovery, resiliency and fiscal sustainability
- Diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Housing and homelessness
- Climate action, open space, and sustainable transportation.
City staff will compile community feedback for the City Council to review in advance of an in-person Community Forum in January and the Council goal-setting workshop in February. During the workshop, council will officially set the goals for the next two years. A preliminary budget will then be presented to the City Council in April and the final 2023-25 Financial Plan adoption in June.
