Woods Humane Society hopes locals will fall in love with a dog or cat this Valentine’s Day. With its animal shelter partners overcrowded and in need of help, the nonprofit is encouraging SLO County families to consider adopting a pet with its “Love is in the Air” adoption special. The promotion reduces adoption fees for all adult animals to just $14 from February 1 to February 14, 2022.
“While our own county has seen fewer strays in recent months, communities nearby are struggling to keep up with the number of animals coming in to their facilities. On top of that surge, this is the time of year when the entire region begins preparing for an influx of spring and summer litters of homeless puppies and kittens,” says Woods Humane Society CEO Neil Trent. “With that in mind, we have lowered the adoption fees for this time with the hope of reducing barriers to finding loving homes for these animals and to open up space to help more dogs and cats running out of time in more impacted shelters.”
Regular adoption fees for adult dogs and cats at Woods Humane Society range from $65 to $150. All animals have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, licensed, and treated for fleas and other parasites prior to adoption. Adoptions also include a free veterinary exam and the option to enroll in a month of complimentary pet health insurance. The shelter spends much more than the amount of the adoption fee to care for each animal (on average, $800 per animal) and relies on the support of the community to cover costs and make sure that each animal receives the best care possible.
