A familiar face will lead the Chamber’s legislative advocacy efforts going forward.

Molly Kern has been tapped as the new Director of Governmental Affairs. Kern has served in various roles since joining the Chamber in 2012, most recently as Director of Communications and Business Education.

“Molly has been instrumental in developing our strategy around advocacy and communicating our positions effectively, and she is the right person to continue that mission on the legislative front,” said interim CEO Sandi Sigurdson.

As Director of Governmental Affairs, Kern works with three critical Chamber committees —Economic Development, Legislative Action and Business Council — to guide development of policy positions to recommend to the Board of Directors. She also advocates on behalf of the business community at the local and state level.

Kern succeeds Charlene Rosales, who was named Economic Development Manager for the City of SLO last month after 5 years at the Chamber.

“I’m looking forward to working with city officials, the Chamber leadership and our members to ensure that San Luis Obispo remains a great place to do business and to call home,” said Kern, who holds a degree in philosophy of public policy and ethics from UCSB and is a graduate of Leadership SLO Class XXIV.
