The Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Leadership Program starts on July 9, 2021. The JEDI Leadership Program is designed for BIPOC leaders to develop a deeper connection to their leadership strengths and purpose.
The JEDI Leadership Program is being offered by Clarity Collective LLC – a local coaching and consulting firm specializing in helping individuals and teams achieve their full potential. Dr. Joy Pedersen, owner of Clarity Collective LLC, observed challenges faced by BIPOC professionals in predominantly white organizations and recognized the need for opportunities to grow leadership skills and build support through community. Pedersen says, “Living and working in a predominantly white community, I noticed a lack of leadership opportunities that embrace and develop BIPOC cultural values, experiences, and strengths. This program is designed to be a personal and professional growth experience that equips BIPOC leaders with strategies and support to advance their careers while leading systemic change.”
Through weekly half-day sessions and one-on-one coaching, participants will develop leadership skills and build relationships in their community. In addition, participants will:
- Increase self-awareness and knowledge of personal leadership style
- Embrace an expansive model of leadership
- Build community and grow with a cohort of supportive peers
- Leverage cultural values to lead confidently and effectively
- Learn strategies to avoid internalizing and perpetuating racism
The group will be led by two facilitators, but will also be guided by the contributions of the participants. Pedersen says, “I believe in collective wisdom and the shared knowledge that we can generate together.”
Pedersen is a local resident of the Central Coast. Growing up in a biracial family in San Luis Obispo, her experiences with social justice are both personal and professional. She is a founding member of the Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Faculty and Staff Association at Cal Poly and teaches multicultural counseling at Brandman University. Pedersen has a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Organization from University of California, Santa Barbara.
The program is also seeking sponsorship from local individuals and businesses who would like to support professional development for BIPOC participants in San Luis Obispo County.
