history center of slo countyThe History Center of San Luis Obispo County is thrilled to announce the opening of their latest exhibit focusing on the Pecho Coast, an area which stretches from Islay Creek in Montana de Oro State Park to Point San Luis near Avila Beach.

A grand opening will take place on Friday, August 2nd, 2019 as a part of Arts Obispo’s Art After Dark from 6-9 pm. Light refreshment will be served, and members of the History Center’s Exhibits Committee will be on hand to answer questions from the public.

Covering a broad sweep of time, this ambitious exhibit encompasses all stages of the Pecho Coast’s past. From Indigenous Peoples to the arrival of Europeans. From Spanish and Mexican Ranchos to Japanese tenant farmers. And from Diablo Canyon’s construction through to the current day and its decommissioning.

As San Luis Obispo County faces the end of the Diablo Canyon era, we as a community have some decisions to make. Without advocating for any particular outcome, the History Center strongly believes that we all will be better able to prepare for the Pecho Coast’s future if we understand its past.

The History Center of San Luis Obispo County is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation dedicated to preserving and promoting all of San Luis Obispo County’s history.
