The San Luis Obispo County Farmers’ Market Association has recruited eight new farmers who will substantially increase the variety of locally produced goods for sale at the Thursday night Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market this summer. The added selection of farm products will be available on a new side street extension on Chorro Street, just off of the event’s main farmers section on Higuera Street beginning June 2, 2016.

The additional offerings were made possible through a partnership between the SLO County Farmers’ Market Association and the Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market event, as well as support from Heritage Oaks Bank.

New additions to the Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market include:

–     Local beef, cooking demos and barbecue samples from Hearst Ranch

–     Seasonally caught fish from Jo Oliver of the Morro Bay Fishermen’s Association

–     Poultry and eggs from BeeWench Farm

–     Yogurt from Farm Girl Creamery (beginning in July)

–     Fresh local rabbit from Sage Rabbitry

–     Cured meats from Alle-Pia Fine Cured Meats

–     Selection of grains from Ancient Grains

–     Cheese from Chateau Fresno Organics

–     Mushrooms from Branden’s Gourmet Mushrooms (beginning in July)

“We’re thrilled to be able to offer even more options for residents and visitors to shop local,” said Peter Jankay, SLO County Farmers’ Market Association’s executive director. “The Central Coast is home to an abundance of local food producers and there is no better way to show off our farmers than at one of our most popular weekday markets.”

SLO County Farmers’ Market Association, established in 1978, provides places for family owned and operated farms to sell fresh quality products directly to consumers. All of its markets are certified by the CA Department of Food and Agriculture.
