The award was established in 2006 to recognize the remarkable contributions of those who dedicated themselves to improving the health and well-being of their communities. Martin will be presented with the award at the Foundation’s annual Celebration of Caring Gala, on August 19, 2017.

Martin founded Martin Resorts in 1998 with her late husband. She has successfully propelled the business to become one of the top private, female owner employers in the country. In 2015, she assisted in the creation of the first Countywide Tourism Marketing District and she now serves on the official State of California Tourism Board. Her passion for supporting tourism and the local economy has earned her recognition from San Luis Obispo County. In early 2017, Martin took on a new role as Chairwoman for her company.

In addition to her business success, Martin is devoted to numerous local causes, showing her support by dedicating time and philanthropic resources to local non-profit organizations.

Martin currently serves on the Hearst Cancer Resource Center Advisory Committee for French Hospital Medical Center, where her and her husband, Chris Hullburd, MD, recently established the Martin Hullburd Family Cancer Education Fund with a generous $300,000 gift. The new cancer education fund will support educational programs through the Hearst Cancer Resource Center for those diagnosed with cancer, all offered free of charge.

Martin has also been involved with the Paso Robles Children’s Museum, Visit San Luis Obispo County, and is a judge appointed CASA Advocate. She was previously the recipient of the 2009 Champions for Children Award. Additionally, she has generously donated her Chianti Farmhouse/Villa as an auction item to numerous local non-profits, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars to support many local charities over the years.

Past recipients of the Humanitarian Award include the following: Dr. Louis Tedone, Dr. Ke-Ping Tsao, Rob Rossi, Stephen Hearst, Dr. Jac Pedersen, Phyllis Madonna, Frank and Betsey Kelton, Jim Sargen, John and Sandy Dunn, Jim Copeland, Bert and Candace Forbes and Dr. Gilbert H. Stork.
